A Green Day at our School – “Cleaning Up the World”
On the 16th of September our School took part in the global action called “Cleaning up the World”. This year the action was connected with the International Year of Forests.
Science teachers prepared some activities and divided them among the classes. Every group together with its class teacher had to go to the nearby forest and conduct a research related to the topic. As soon as the pupils had finished their work (notes, photos etc.), they started to collect the litter in order to clean the forest from different kind of rubbish (paper, plastic, glass). The teacher explained the importance of recycling and putting the litter into the right container (blue, yellow or green).
After that, the students came back to school to develop their projects and prepare the exhibition on the school corridor.
The “Cleaning up the World” action was designed to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and development of all types of forests. It also was a good opportunity to start our work on the project – COMENIUS Multilateral school partnership “Is it waste or money?”.
The European Day of Languages
During the last week of September our pupils were preparing posters and presentations about countries of our partners in the project (Spain, Great Britain, Turkey). First, they presented their work in the classrooms in front of their peers. In that way we started celebrating the Week of Foreign Languages.
On the 6th of October we decided to celebrate A Foreign Language Day in front of all students. Our pupils presented their posters introducing some very important and interesting information about history, geography, culture and the language of Spain, Great Britain, Turkey, and Poland. Moreover, we sang two well known British songs Yesterday and Yellow Submarine (The Beatles).
Apart from that, we invited to school some people from a foundation called “Foundation Dom Kultury” whose task is to help refugees from Chechnya to start a new life in Poland. They presented a lot of interesting information about history, culture and the language of people from Chechnya. It was a very important part of the celebration as there is a quite big group of children from Chechnya who attend our school. Our purpose was to introduce the students to culture and the language of their new classmates.
The last part of the celebration was a workshop devoted to customs and culture of the Jewish. Our pupils had a great opportunity to learn some words and even dances.
We all enjoyed the day.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
Our pupils started to make Christmas postcards from recyclable materials. We want to send them to our partners from Liverpool, London, Spain and Turkey as a little gift for Christmas.
Apart from that, we are going to make an exhibition from them as a part of the school Christmas decoration.
Here are some photos showing our students during their work.
Logo contest design
One of the activities connected with the Comenius project at our school was the Logo Contest which was organised in October. Our pupils prepared a lot of different drawings and pictures. Have a look at our gallery – you can see the results of students’ work.
Christmas decoration
Last week our pupils made a beautiful Christmas decoration. They put all the Christmas cards, which they made from recyclable materials, on a special board. Here are the photographs.
